ANDY CARTER (Chief Instructor)

Andy Carter is the founder of Jo’Li Martial Arts and has over 20 years of martial arts experience. He began training Shotokan Karate in 1986 at the Halfway Karate Club under the tutelage of Steve Evans Sensei. He trained with Steve for many years before being awarded Shodan (Black Belt 1 st Dan) in 2002. During this period Andy took some time out to expand his martial arts skills and trained Kickboxing and for a short time Judo. It was also during this period that he had an eye opening experience in Wu Shu.

However, karate has always been his passion and in 2003 was awarded Nidan (Black Belt 2nd Dan) by Steve Evans Sensei. During most of 2004, Andy also trained with John Walsh Sensei of Kyushin Ryu Jujitsu, in order to develop his martial arts skills further. In April 2006 Andy was awarded Sandan (Black Belt 3rd Dan) with the British National Martial Arts Associations.

Andy is an experianced and qualified Instructor and has coached students at National and International Competition level. Andy himself has also been a competitor and medalist at National and International competitions.

Presently, Andy runs Jo'Li Martial Arts with the assistance of his senior students promoting both the club and martial arts in general.

MARK SKINNER (Assistant Instructor)

Mark began his martial arts training in the early 1980s. He studied the art of Judo for a short period under instructors Brian and Claire Cox. In 1984 Mark decided to broaden his martial arts knowledge and began training at the Sheppey Karate Club. It was here that he grasped the basics of Shotokan Karate, before moving to the Halfway Karate Club in 1985 under the tutelage of Steve Evans Sensei.

After a short break due to commitments in his professional career, Mark picked up his training again in 2002 with Jo’Li Martial Arts. In June 2004 Marks hard work paid off when he was awarded Shodan (Black Belt 1 st Dan). He then went on to become an assistant instructor with the club and is a valuable asset to Jo’Li Martial Arts.
