Andy, Steve and Alex all competed in the Light Continuous Sparring section whilst Malcolm and Gareth were our Corner Crew. All three fighters did very well in their fights but unfortunately none reached the final stages of the competition. However, we didn't come away empty handed as Andy won the Gold Medal and World Title in the Traditional Weapons Forms section. Please see our Gallery for some more pictures. Thanks to everybody who helped with the preparations for this competition and to everyone who supported us on the day.

Weapons Grading Results May 2007
Weapons Grading Milestone!
Four members of Jo’Li Martial Arts, John Reveley, Steve Gunn, Malcolm Ralph and Gareth Ralph, were awarded Level 1 passes in Bo Jitsu at the clubs weapons grading last Thursday.
The four members demonstrated Kihon (basics), Kata (form) and Kumite (sparring) using a Bo (a six foot hard oak staff) which is a traditional Japanese martial art weapon.
Andy Carter, Chief Instructor at Jo’Li Martial Arts, said “this is a great achievement for the students who have dedicated several months of training to reach this level. It is also a milestone for the club as they are the first group of students to be examined and pass a weapons grading since the start of the weapons classes. Currently, weapons training is only open to 12 years and over, but if there is enough interest then we will consider a class for children”.
Over the next 12 weeks the students will be training for Level 1 Sai Jitsu.

To celebrate to release of the latest ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle’, Jo’Li Martial Arts teamed up with Warner Bros. and Kixx Martial Arts at the Blue Water shopping centre on Good Friday. Throughout the day martial arts demonstrations took place every hour, free merchandise and club information was handed out and there were several visits from the ‘Ninja Turtles’ themselves. Andy Carter, Chief Instructor for Jo’Li Martial Arts said, “It was a fantastic day for everyone involved. For us it wasn’t just about promoting the film release but it was also an opportunity to raise the profile of the club and martial arts in general.
